My Golden Gage Tree

Just gave me 5 Kg of fruit, truly lovely. Now what to do with it and quick before the Victoria ripens.

I filled up 10 buckets from my Golden Gage this year :)

They're my very favourite crumble filling, make fantastic jam and freeze very well. The trouble is the crop is always so big, and at the hottest time of the year, that I cannot raise any enthusiasm for making jam. And once they're getting ripe they don't keep long so you have to do something with them fast. So I tend to chuck them in the freezer so I can pull them out to make jam or for cooking any time I want to.

think that is good idea - i thought i might put some in vodka. They are seriously yummy - better than the Victoria (don't tell her).

Mum has just picked about 24 lb of plums before going away on summer hols tomorrow.

She is busy making jam, stewed fruit, and open freezing some on trays.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Wish somebody would invent a widget for getting the stones out though. I always feel I have to do it before freezing them, because it's impossible once they've been frozen and defrosted, but there is nothing more tedious than de-stoning several kilos of them.

I was given a bag of golden gages the other day and me and OH sat eating them the other evening. Blimey, they are lush!

I know I'm biased, but I think they're way nicer than plums :)

I like them both but I think gages have the edge

I had more plums for tea tonight, with custard on. Yum  :)
