This is the third year for my VP very few flowers and some fruit set
Is this normal or is there something I'm not doing? The tree looks very healthy

A few more detail's may help Eddie

but as a guess perhaps you should water well throughout the year and apply so slow release fertiliser around the tree.

If it's only a young tree or only been in place for the three years then possibly it's still putting down a good root structure.

Bought mine nearly 4 years ago as a stick from Lidl for a pound or two. I've been pruning, feeding and watering carefully and last year it suddenly took off, reaching 7 foot this Spring and there were a few flowers. I think it's happy and I'll get hopefully get a good crop in the next year or two.

I have a Victoria Plum tree - every year after I planted it, it produced more flowers than the year before, but it was at least 4-5 years before it started to produce an amazing floral display and (weather permitting!) a decent crop.  There is the slight risk of a plum tree going biennial where one year it does very well, the following year not so good.  Touch wood I've not experienced that but I understand thinning out some of the young fruit after they have set should ensure it produces well every year.

Yeah that sounds right especially in it's 1st few years, it can get down a good root system. Patience now with young tree's pays dividends in later years

My VP was a two year old when I planted it. It grew beautifully every year but produced no blossom at all for 5 years! Then, last year, the tree was laden with blossom and I got about 25lb of plums from it. This year looks about the same.
