I have 10 hens in my back garden so I have no idea which one it came from they where last wormed about a month ago they all seem fine. They are enclosed in a shed like coup sides and front are meshed with a portion at the back enclosed for the coup and they have no contact with wild birds at all so all in all pretty safe

Excessive amounts of vitamin B2 in a chicken's diet can turn egg whites green, but if your hens are enclosed and just getting regular chicken feed, that seems unlikely.

It could have been a minor fault in the egg like a hairline crack or a tiny hole, that let bacteria in.  I don't know of any other reasons.

There main diet is a 50/50 mix of layer pellets and mixed corn. Then they get greens, bread, and the occasional pint of maggots and if we have them in bananas and apples.

Well it doesn't sound like diet, so my guess would be that somehow that egg got contaminated via a small fault in the shell.

A green egg for breakfast is not great, but hopefully it was a one off  :)
