Possible prolapse
« on: August 10, 2017, 20:34 »
Advice needed please.  One of my hens has a small red lump sticking out of her rear end.  I am wondering if it is prolapse.  What is the best way of dealing with it? She seems quite happy in herself.

Sounds like a prolapse.  Some people put them in a warm bath, push it back in gently and apply anulsol cream.  While it may work temporarily, as soon as they lay an egg again there is a chance it will happen again.  Chickens being chickens will peck at red things and it can soon become a blooming mess and in my opinion the kindest thing to do is to dispatch the hen before she gets pecked.  :(

Thank you for your help.  I shall send her on her way.  It is such as shame as she is a friendly little thing.
