greenhouse shading
« on: July 23, 2006, 16:51 »
ive just aquired a green house dismantled and rebuilt it in our back garden, when i took it down it had debris netting (the stuff you see wrapped around scaffolds) fastened to the inside of the roof for shading i presume. do you think this is a bit severe or is it ok .its in full sun for best part of the day.
feed the soil not the plants
organicish
you learn gardening by making mistakes

She's got two layers on green shading on her greenhouse and stuff still frazzles a bit.  The book says water the concrete paths in the greenhouse to try to cool things down a bit.  She does, and it does.  Obviously, if you work this is not an option ... So shading it is.  Beats painting the glass with white stuff and then having to clean it all off again in the Spring, like the 'old 'uns' used to do.
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

I usually water the paths, but have been working a bit (unpaid unfortunately) for the past 3 weeks, so haven't been around.  But my small greenhouse has some shading, and the bigger greenhouse has tall tomatoes shading the little pots on the staging.  Helps a bit, but I was thinking of painting the outside with a watery emulsion mix.  They reckong it comes off on its own when the frosts come, but at the moment, its too hot to bother with!
