Newby (Big) Error
« on: November 14, 2017, 09:40 »
Hi
We have a new allotment and I jumped the gun and bought some bare rooted fruit trees before we had time to clear the area.  Yes, I underestimated (hugely) the time we would need to clear the area  ::) I know, I know!! daft of me.  Anyways, my plan now is to pot them up in pots insulated with bubble wrap on the inside.  Then surround with straw to protect....any other suggestions or a better plan would be useful.  No, I don't have a garage or basement to store them in or the space yet to temporally heel them in, (Those are the only suggestions Google gave me)  Please don't judge, my enhusiasim ruled my heart.   Help.

Haha we've all been there!  Do you have a sheltered area/against a house wall you can put them once they've been potted up?
I'd have thought they'd be fine - mine were...! :D

Pot them and sink into the ground on the plot for better frost protection.
They will be on hand when their permanent home is ready.

I'll try the potting up and bury them in a hole thing - they won't know the difference between that and being planted out properly will they!  :D

Might need something on the surface to keep the rain off a bit as drainage will not be as good in a pot .

Right.  Pot them up.  Bury them. Cover them.  Got it, thank you all.
