Tail feathers
« on: February 26, 2010, 09:17 »
Hi i've just collected 2 new hens 1 Columbine, 1 White Star. When i got them home i realised there condition was under par, the Columbine had lice and feathers missing around her vent and the White Star's main tail feathers had been pecked leaving them looking ratty.I am giving poultry spice and a little extra protein. Can anyone tell me how long until the feathers will grow back?

I can only tell you how quickly they grow back after a moult, which is very quick. You will start seeing the pins within days and they quickly change to fluffy feathers around the vent and bottom area. The tail feathers will show as pins within days and obviously being longer feathers, will take longer to grow to full size.
Hope their condition improves with the spice and extra protein.
El.
