What is this fruit (probably inedible)

The flowers on the tree were bright red if memory serves me right? I thought it maybe a spindle tree but the fruit is wrong. Thank you.

It looks like an immature horse chestnut(conker) maybe a picture of the leaves might help, I'm not good with trees!😱😊

Looks very much like a conker. Cut it in half and see what's inside.

Odd the leaves didn't look like horse chestnut on one side of the tree but the back end looks right for horse chestnut. Thanks CC

Yeah - had to go and look myself as I couldn't remember if it was American or not but it was somewhere at the back of the brain. I believe these conkers don't do well if you want to enter a serious conker championship as they are too soft.
