pH Problem
« on: August 22, 2017, 08:11 »
     Morning All
I tested my soil at the weekend and with a few
Exceptions it's averaging out at about ph. 5.5.
Obviously I need to lime to bring it up to 7.0- 7.5
My question is how much lime will I need on a
Plot thats 130 square metres, or how much per square
Metre ? Really appreciate a helping hand with this
          One guys.
keep on digging

Just a further thought - cheap probe-type soil pH testers are notoriously inaccurate, so if you used one of those to get your readings it is probably worth buying a cheap chemical soil testing kit and retesting one or two of the areas you've already done to make sure you have the right starting point for any liming you plan to do.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

.

It's an almost impossible job to raise or lower the PH of your soil permanently!

What are you intending growing that you want to raise the PH?

Me, when I plant brassicas I sprinkle some lime into the planting hole this works as I have club root in the soil, but by this method I seldom lose any plants to club root!

Hope this Helps

Hi All
Sorry I haven't replied earlier. JayG, I tested first with a
Soil testing kit, which looked about 6.00 I then tested
With a probe, it wasn't a cheap one, ive heard there
Rubbish, and it came back about 5.5
. I have 4 beds. All 8x4 square metres and all
Showing similar readings.  So a lot of lime is going
To be needed I think. Gulp!! Thanks for the links
Mum and salmo. A big help.
