Although my hens dust bathe I though it would be nice to give them a shallow box with play sand. It seemed better,no stones or sticks just lovely soft sand. When I opened the coop this morning there was lots of sandy coloured poo. I know they eat grit and oyster shell ( I give them both) but what is the attraction and will it harm them

Its probably just something new so they ate some, in the way chickens do    If it coming back out the other end, it shouldn't be doing any harm, but if they carry on, I would take it out again.
