Mouldy grapevine?
« on: July 18, 2007, 20:58 »
So as you know i bought a grape vine from morrisons and i noticed today that 1 of the leaves on it looks mouldy well kinda furry/mouldy if that makes sense? Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? it looks like a young leaf as its not as dark green as the rest.

Kind regards Nicky

Grape vine seem to be quite hardy i brouhgt one about 2 months ago and the wind blew it on to our Rabbit hutch and the little sod stripped it!!! Baby grapes un all!!! He'd almost completely chewed through the main stem and now its burst into life again!  :o  :D

Just glad hubby stopped me throwing the vine out ............ and stewing the bl**dy bunny   !*@?

i spent a while working in a vineyard - and they used to have to spray all the time - grapes are very susceptible to moulds - especially mildew - honey fugus is the real danger for grapes though - so make sure you can diagnose properly - or you may lose your stock.

Most (if not all) vine moulds get sorted by using a mixture of copper sulpha(i?)te and lime.  3kg of rock lime and 2kg or copper to 100ltr of water.  You may need to add more of the powders or more water - the test is to dip a leaf in the solution and if it is evenly coated with blue/white liquid it's good.

I'm sorry, but I don't know whether it's sulphite or sulphate - it's just called Rame over here, which means copper.  It's a blue powder.

If it's hot, or rains, you'll need to reapply.
