Tomato plant leaves
« on: July 31, 2012, 17:46 »
Noticed in the last day or two that my tomato plant leaves are turning a dark purple colour along the edges of the leaves and they seem to have lighter and darker green tones to the leaves.

I did cut the foliage back on them quite harshly at the weekend to let more light in to start ripening the fruits on them. This is happening on all 8 plants in the greenhouse.

Could it be stress from taking off to many leaves and branches or perhaps the quite sudden drop in temperature in the last couple of days. Or perhaps some type of virus

Leaves can turn a bluey colour if they get too cold, and there have been some chilly nights here recently.  Not sure whether it's the same in your part of the country - do you have a max and min thermometer in your greenhouse?

Unlikely to be a virus but you shouldn't remove too many leaves as it stops the plant producing energy.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I fed them tonight with tomato rite as I do every week. I might sprinkle some blood fish and bone around the top of the pots and water it in tomorrow.
