That could have more than one cause, what do the carrots themselves look like if you pull one?

In my experience it meant I had Carrot root fly

When my carrots have had carrot fly the foliage usually goes a reddish colour, but that's maybe splitting hairs as yellow is not good news either.

Do what Argyllie suggests, and if the roots are stunted rather than riddled with larvae it could be they are starving - the "minimal fertiliser" technique for carrot growing doesn't work in sandy soils like mine, especially after all the rain we've had.

hi had this problem on a row turned out they were just hungry no carrot fly so gave them a fed and doing well now , but best to check first .
keep allotments alive grow your own
