i want to used raised beds in my plot.  

do you think pallets would be ok to use?  if not, what should i use?

Pallets are fine but hard woork to dismantle. best bet is old floorboard if you can get it

timber from pallets will last no more than 2 years when you have soil against them dont matter what you treat em with,for the price and longer lasting timber your better off getting tanalised timber,I have seen decking timber on freecylcle a number of times

To true Shaun they won't last ! if you can't get em off freecycle then how about your local reclaim yard ? Mine came from there tanalised etc about a quid for a 9' length.

Hard to beat scaffing boards. Only thing that would is old railway sleepers  :shock:

They have banned old railway sleepers for veg growing now because of the tar and greosote.
They also do not recomend them were their are children
Ive have used them for years,but listen to the experts,so no longer use them :cry:

Seems reasonable. Cover the sleepers with scaffing planks?

Why not just raise them with soil ? edging of any kind will harbour slugs and things.

i use old engine oil mixed with  white spirit on  pallet boards and they have lined the edges of paths and also the banks of the river on the farm for last 7 yrs .didnt rot and still going strong, boards are 1inch thick ones from steel stockholders pallets
