I have grown Jermore and Springfield shallots.I have harvested the Jermore as the foliage was fading fast,instead of the nice ,even shallots I normally get the initial sets have split into about7-10 little shallots,some only as big as large garlic cloves.Ths spring field ones are still going strong but these have only split 2-3 ways and are currently 2+ inches in diameter.Has anyone else had unusual shallot results or know why especially the jermore variety has split so many times?

Took up the springfields about 10 days ago and they have quite fat necks though non flowered, they are going to take ages to dry.Thanks for replying,I was feeling a little abandoned....

the smaller ones make into pickled onions , the biguns lift with a fork to loosen the roots now and start to dry by bending over the tops ,this will stop them blowing if they are intending to , the unusual happening part is the " british weather "
