Fruit trees - 1st year fruit
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:05 »
Hi, I joined this site primarily for the poultry advise but my wife has a question about the fruit trees we have in our front garden: She was told that, to increase subsequent year's harvest you should pick off the first year's fruit as it begins.  Does anyone know if this is true?
I have also noticed that you have homebrew pages too! Great - I've been brewing since I was 14 (34 years ago).

The recommendation is to remove the 1st years fruit, this allows the tree to establish a good root system and growth. But if you are a little impatient then you could always let one fruit develop just to try.

I think that first year, single, quality control is vital  ;) :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks for the advise - we've now picked the tree bare and are enjoying the plethora of raspberries at the bottom of the garden.   :)
