Hi

I have a little gold top banty in with two large fowl light sussex, all getting on well together.

They usually lay in the house all in the same place/nest in the straw, but for the last few days the bedding has been tossed about all over and the eggs strewn about and "hidden" under the bedding. 

There isn't an enclosed nest box - they have just been laying in the corner before without any problems.

Any ideas why they have started doing this?

I don't know definitively why but would hazard a guess that it isn't private enough.

Sounds like one or more hens has found an insect and had a good scratch about for more.

An enclosed nestbox would be less likely to be scratched out.

Thanks for the replies

"google" suggested it maybe one thinking about going broody

today when I checked all three had laid and they were nestled neatly together in a "nest"

chickens  lol
