DIY Double Glazed Greenhouse - built!
« on: April 15, 2014, 08:49 »
Well, the old greenhouse bit the dust after heavy winds last year, so now it's time to build a proper one

Here's how it currently looks lol

Picked all this up last night for £15

Got quite a bit, also got some pvc french doors to use as the entrance, project starts on Easter Friday :)

Got a mate giving me a hand so hopefully plenty of work to be carried out at the weekend :)

I am looking forward to your photos with great interest stickmeup, as we have some of these units too and are trying to decide the best way to go about making something useful out of them.

Hope it goes well  :D

Rome wasn't built in a day, but our greenhouse was! What a weekend!!!  We also built the greenhouse totally for free as I dint use any of the glass I had bought, already had plenty to use!

So, we pulled down the old greenhouse and binned it, only took about 15 minutes to sort out, and got some of the old fencing posts I had out to use as the corners

Had some old sliding conservatory doors delivered to me, this would make up 2 of the walls

2 walls went up very quickly using the 2 conservatory doors, and 2 windows

Then the other 2 went up using the 2 final conservatory doors, the french doors I had as the entrance, and some glass to fill in the space down the side as the doors werent full width

I still need to paint/treat the wood which will finish the greenhouse off

As you can see the area around the greenhouse was also quite messy which we sorted out

The roof was added using double glazed panels which I had already received from a pvc company who had removed them from a conservatory they had changed

Final pic of the day from the friday with the main build being completed

Saturday then came with a general tidy up around the area, with decking built around the side and back, and some bins built around the back out of pallets for spare wood and my rolls of tubing/pipe for cloches etc

You can also see the start of our bug hotel on the left

and there we go - finished article until the staining is sorted

Well chuffed

It was built using recycled material, with no cost as even the screws were given to us from a friends work

Would definately recommend it as had my mate hanging off the centre post across the roof and this thing is not gonna shift so it will be there for a good few years yet

Thank you very much, yeah that was the only glass I had to fit the gap, but gives a lovely effect

Very impressed, well done to you both and for having the vision of how it might all fit together  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Brilliant!  :)  Your plot looks really tidy and good.  Now for the crops to live up to their surroundings! ;)

Well done....

That's a great job!! We have some old windows too and Mr Sunny has been "mulling things over" so I shall show him your pics for inspiration  :D :D

Thanks, stickmeup..... that is just the job for relaxing on a deck chair and surveying your estate from  :nowink:

Quick question: How did you join the window units to each other?

That's a thing of beauty! Will have to show to my OH with a pointed comment about the coldframe I've been promised... ;)

The window units have a length of wood (almost a frame) inbetween them to join to, the brown ones are just screwed together due to the way they are built
