Old Spots...Any good for a total beginner?
« on: August 22, 2011, 20:45 »
I've only  just acquired an allotment but when I get the buildings shipshape(Have a look in my gallery) I really want to get a couple of pigs, these are not for pets purely for consumption(I am a greedy chap!  :D)
I have read that Old Spots are a good pig for a novice, any advice would be appreciated ;)
It's better to burn out than to fade away !!     ;)

Before you start making plans for pigs, have you double checked that you are allowed them?  Most allotment sites don't permit any livestock other than bees, hens, pigeons and rabbits
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I would also suggest you go on a short course if you have no experience. You will also need a holding number to keep pigs and need to know what paperwork is needed - things like movement papers etc.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Good idea,I'll have a look to see if there are any courses nearby.
I've already found out about the paperwork side of it and that's no problem,in fact it looks pretty straightforward. Thanks Joyful.
I've asked about keeping pigs Yorkie and it's fine, some people have even got cows!
