I had a chat with someone who suggested there could be a fault with the clutch. Does this sound possible? Does anyone know how I could check the clutch? Thanks

For you  to be considering clutch problems you must have eliminated the head as the culprit??
that being the case, refer to post 2 to see if the shaft is stationary at tick over and spins as revs increase.

Thanks. I'm just trying to elimate all possibilities before shelling out on a new head. The engine did start racing when I lost drive - like a car with a slipping clutch. Would the clutch disengage if a fault in the gearhead was preventing the shaft from turning? This is the other possibility I suppose.
