merry tiller spares advice please - belt and filter

Hi folks,

I've been using a merry tiller that was made circa 1966. It runs great, there's nothing those great tines won't go through. I've done 3/4 of the plot and it paid for itself within 2 days of using it, because machines like this cost upwards of 50 quid/day to hire. I've gone over 3/4 of the plot 5 times now, and the soil is a fine crumble to a depth of about 12 to 18 inches. I now have forearms like popeye.

The machine needs a bit of TLC now, in particular it needs a new drive belt, because the rubber has dropped out of segments of it. Maybe the belt on there was original equipment!!! I don't want it to snap whilst I'm using it. So, I've got a few questions regarding belt replacement:

1. why does the big flywheel have 2 grooves? Does it use 2 belts?? There is only one on there at the moment.
2. can I use a 'pattern' belt or must it be OE?
3. if a 'pattern' belt, a recommended make/brand?
4. Does the machine require dismantling to fit the belt?

I have a question about the air filter too. I'm presently using a filter off another briggs & stratton engine - same shape filter etc, it is off a flymo dm 50. I wondered if I could make my own filter out of polyurethane foam  and soak it in clean motor oil as per instructions on the filter, and then tune the carb for mixture, or whether to order one as OE - but these might be as rare as hen's teeth.

thanks in advance for any advice forthcoming

Can anyone recommend someone to give my Merry tiller a service,

it needs a new belt(s), new clutch cable, throttle cable, new starter pull cord, when its working its a great machine,

I think it might be about 1970's vintage and a Titan

I live in West London, but can travel a reasonable distance

If anyone wants to earn a few quid, they can service it, but if anyone knows of any service agents, it would be appreciated

I cant find any around my area (Northolt, Ruislip, Ealing,)
It's all about the journey, not the destination
