Rosemary
« on: May 02, 2013, 12:06 »
I have a well established Rosemary bush. I have noticed that a lot of the 'leaves' have gone a 'browny-bergundy' colour! I repotted yesterday using some well rotted horse manure in bottom of pot with a multi-purpose at the top.
What may have caused this change in leaf colour, and am I using the correct soil?

I think rosemary like to be treated mean, and like a gritty well drained soil.

I think it's caused by wind burn - I just cut out the discoloured stems.

I think it's better off in soil without much feeding tbh

Just been doing a little more research, it does prefer a more sandy soil, although a general compost mix sounds ok?and not too much watering, keeping more of a dry soil. It could be wind burn, although it is positioned on the patio in a fairly sheltered spot.

Leaves and stems can get burned (or broken, of course) by a combination of easterly winds, snow and cold.

I have lost half of an established small bush I grew from a cutting to replace my main Rosemary bush near the house (it's getting a bit out of control now!) - it appears that established plants are considerably more robust than young ones.

Mine is growing in sandy soil, never gets watered, and occasionally gets a handful of Growmore thrown at it - MP compost will probably be OK in a pot, but a bit of added light soil wouldn't hurt either.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
