For me it was getting a polytunnel and getting more proficient at the no dig system. We are almost organic apart from a very small helping of slug pellets

Without a doubt it's been tomatoes.

Started them off early under grow lights so started harvesting them early and the hot weather over the summer meant they just kept on coming so quickly and with amazing taste.

Tomatoes and beetroot - more than I know what to do with!  And virtually no slugs ...

Pumpkins, squash and courgettes were amazing for me this year.
Never managed so many and still making soup and baking the spaghetti squash.
Grew them on rabbit poo which I now have a regular supply of and it's made such a difference from last year.
Also only just finished eating tomatoes from greenhouse  :D
Brassicas rubbish, all died in heat  ;)

I tried growing Uchiki Kuri squash up a teepee, a la Monty Don - and it worked!  Looked really cool too and no squash monster invasion of the rest of the garden. Not a great year for quantity, but the quality was fab.
Uchiki Kuri is one of the seed varieties we've been giving away with our books :)
There's a video of Monty Don setting up teepees for squash here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00j22hs

First tomato blight free year in 8 years of allotmenteering. Slight downside is very hot and dry conditions actually delayed ripening of the tomatoes. However I discovered that cutting them green and bringing inside caused them to ripen in a few days.  :D

My highlight was getting my allotment!

I only just realised that I hadn't had land to dig since 2010! when I left my last place.
Current house has the chickens but absolutely no vegetation, being only just big enough for the hens .

Lots to dig, very nice plot neighbours. The previous holder had left some good stuff and some awful stuff, and I "harvested" some raspberries and potatoes.
as well as having donated to me kale, sprouts and leeks :D (and asoaragus plants for next year)

Best succession of lettuce throughout the year I've ever managed,
Onions very good, carrots wonderful.

Getting awarded silver gilt award for allotment, nice to know that real experts are impressed buy our efforts

My highlight was managing to get decent yields on the first year of an overgrown allotment (and first year of being on an allotment ever!). We even had enough spare to take in to work with a collection cup, so made a wee bit of money for charity.

My favourite crops were beetroot ('Solo'), potatoes (a bit hit and miss, but 'Kestrel' especially was lovely), courgettes ('Defender', but oh so many!), sweet peppers ('Corno rosso'- so good on the bbq!) and my Marina di Chioggia pumpkins. As my first year of proper growing this one was unusual weather-wise so it will be interesting to see how things go in 2019 :)
