Parsnip question
« on: July 05, 2015, 12:04 »
I've grown parsnips every year at home with huge success. No beasties have ever been tempted to nibble the leaves.
However, on my new lotty, the leaves are covered with blackfly every day. (Plants are about 6" high.) Everyday, I wash them all off and every day they're back.
My question is - am I being too fussy? What harm will they do If I just left them? Eek!

Blackfly do deplete the strength of plants through affecting how well the leaves can function, so I would continue to tackle them imho.

I squash them gently, supporting a leaf with my other hand, which works quite well

Blackfly seem to be a big problem this year.

We have to deal with lots on our runner beans, for the first time - I think!

I reckon with a strong rooting plant like parsnip, you won't have a problem, but agree that it's disconcerting to see the blighters trying to nobble your crop!

Clobber them as Sunny says, and you'll be OK
