Mouldy mushy courgetts plants and pumpkins

Had a disasterous experience with my courgettes and pumpkins. They started really well and was happily eating courgettes and pumpkins were grownig big... and then they all went mildewy and rotten. Why? I kept them as moist as possible bearing in mind the reallt hot conditions earlier in the year. Any advice for next year. Runner beans and tomatoes have thrived.

Sorry to hear about this - Were you keeping the leaves moist as well as the roots? Courgettes and pumpkins don't really like getting their leaves wet, they just enjoy a lot of water directed straight at the root region.

I avoided using a rose on my watering can because I felt that there was too much water going where I didn't want it, so no, I don't think I got the leaves wet. The stems went yellow and squichy. The plants were really big when this happened...

sounds like thet may not have pollinated properly
