Cloudy and cool this morning, brightened up a bit this afternoon, but a breeze came with that. So this afternoon's cuppa was drunk inside the greenhouse, not sitting outside on the bench  ::)

9C overnight in the greenhouse.

I have the TV on most evenings, although to be fair I also tend to have the laptop on. The degree of attention that each gets, depends on how interesting the TV is!

Vine weevils love strawberries, and their grubs do significant damage to the roots.

Nematodes are said to be effective and would not attack other creatures.

RHS advises hunting them down by torchlight and picking them off.
Also suggests sticky pads and encouraging birds etc. to eat them.
Interestingly they say this is more of an issue with strawberries in containers, as I have some in pots and others at the plot I will be watching  to see which ones do best.

Didn't get the threatened rain or storm yesterday.  Bright start this morning but now drizzling.

AS, I like your dinner party theme. OK, I'd also invite Geoff Hamilton, Keith Floyd and the Hairy bikers (to do the cooking), Stephen Hawkins and Ken Dodd. Cue - is it that time already, I should have been in bed twelve hours ago!

Grow Your Own / Strawberries not thriving

This is my second year of growing strawberries in containers. With the arrival of the hot weather I noticed that some of the plants were not looking well despite having been fed and watered. Today I think I found the culprit. I was checking them over and came across a weevil. I presume she will not be alone. What is my best course of action given that I wont use any insecticides in my organic, bee loving allotment?
