Hi everyone.  Just wanted to introduce myself to you all.  I've been reading the forum everyday for months now and am really impressed by the friendliness and and the amount of really useful information here.  Anyhoo, I got my key last night and am off to view my new plot right now.  Been told it's a bit of a dooer upper, so fingers crossed the problems are not Amazonian.
Regards to you all
Denise

Welcome - are you Stratford as in Shakespeare or in Olympics?
You'll get fantastic advice on here - some even usuable.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

It's a mile and a bit from Stony Stratford which is on the old A5 SW of Milton Keynes Noshed.  Pleeeeeease, no-one mention concrete cows.

The plot could be worse, it's been neglected for about nine months on a huge site with lot's of obviously keen allotmenteers on it.

Well worth the wait.  Now the fun bit begins, choosing what to put in.  Shall spend the evening browsing old threads and making lists.  :D

Two trees going in for sure, a walnut and a hazel with truffle spores.

Hi, and welcome,

im looking into the idea of the hazel with white truffle myself, but wondering where to put it. It needs an alkaline soil, and i think my 'fruit and nut' hedgerow might be too close to the plot for it.

its a £20/4 year investment before they mature but should be worth it

Hi from me too - there's nothing like setting yourself a sturdy challenge and an overgrown plot fits the bill.  Best time of year to take one on too 'cause all this rough weather forces you to sit at home drawing up your lottie plans for next year and browse through books and catalogues for ideas.  And you're just about in time to add a few items to your Christmas prezzie list for Santa if you need to!
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.  Just whittled the list of veggies I want to plant next year down to 2337 :D
Might plant the hazel in the garden now.  The website says that you can adjust your soil for one tree ok, but an orchard is another matter.
Usually spend weekends travelling the country to ice rinks, now the money guzzler has passed his driving test I can do my own thing a little more.
