I hope not lol

If you own your own house you can usually do whatever you want. If you rent you will need to get permission. However, it is always a good idea to chat to your neighbours to make sure they dont mind???

Think carefully about getting a cockrel unles you want the noise abatement people on your door step lol.

I think even if you own your house it could be in the deeds that you cant keep chickens on your land, if you rent please check with the landlord first because you wont have much garden left if they free range! :)

even hens can be noisy so if you end up with noisy ones your neighbours can complain to the council about them. Also if any rats are noticed you will get the blame for that too so you have to make sure you give your neighbours cause to complain - good husbandry, keep them shut in until a reasonable time and ideally a few delicious eggs every now and then.
Also if you keep 50 or more you need to register with Defra.
Staffies are softer than you think.

You should be aware of section 12 of the Allotments Act 1950:

12 Abolition of contractual restrictions on keeping hens and rabbits.
(1)Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary in any lease or tenancy or in any covenant, contract or undertaking relating to the use to be made of any land, it shall be lawful for the occupier of any land to keep, otherwise than by way of trade or business, hens or rabbits in any place on the land and to erect or place and maintain such buildings or structures on the land as reasonably necessary for that purpose:
Provided that nothing in this subsection shall authorise any hens or rabbits to be kept in such a place or in such a manner as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance or affect the operation of any enactment.

This essentially means that, even if there is something in a lease, tenancy or house deeds [i.e. not restricted to allotments, despite title of the Act], it is nevertheless lawful to keep hens on land.

I believe that the NSALG has obtained legal advice to this effect - so that you can't be prevented from keeping hens through the terms of a lease etc.  If the council impose a blanket ban, refer them to this section and see what they say.

Note however that the hens can't cause a statutory nuisance (noise, nuisance, smells etc).  So if this is the case, they can be forbidden.

Cockerels are not 'hens' so are not allowed by virtue of this provision.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Afraid not; that Act only applies in England and Wales.  There is an Allotments (Scotland) Act 1950 but it doesn't have a corresponding provision.
