I've sown some green manure for the first time this Autumn - been meaning to for years, never remembered, saw a packet whilst wandering through the local garden centre.

Nice fat packet of seed (150grams I think), cost about £2. Got it home, went out to sow it on 2 x 30' beds, 4' wide, that grew potatoes this year. Read the packet and it said "sufficient for 3 sq.m"

My two beds total 22 sq.m. that would cost £15 in green manure seed - and I've many more beds on the plot

Is there a more cost effective source where I can buy in bulk? or some sort of keep-your-own-seed approach I could use?

Depends what seeds you're sowing at this time of year.

Grazing rye is best for late autumn.

Try Warwicks in Wickham, Hants who will post stuff out. Dead cheap and you can buy loose.

Thanks for that.  Didn't think of ebay Doh!

Kings have Grazing Rye at 10p / sq.m. so my 22 sq.m. is only going to be a couple of quid, instead of £15 and Fenucreek 4p / sq.m., and Mustard 2p / sq.m.

Thanks. I'm done for this year, and what I sowed went in a few weeks ago, but I'll bear that in mind for future years.
