re-potting chutney
« on: September 11, 2018, 20:12 »
I have some large jars of chutney that I want to put into small jars as gifts. Do I just transfer to steralized cool small pots or do I have to reheat all the chutney. The small jars will be eaten within a couple of days so wonder if it will be okay.

I have some large jars of chutney that I want to transfer to small jars for a cheese party. These will be eaten within a day or so if not sooner. Do I have to empty large jars and reheat chutney or can I just transfer into small steralized jars. Do the small jars need to be warm or can I let them cool. I am worried about putting cool chutney into warm jars.

Hi Jude.  I merged your posts as they were so similar.

In both cases, if the small jars are going to be eaten in a couple of days, you will be fine.  Let the jars cool a little so they don't crack.  If you are oven sterilising, switch the oven off and leave them in there.  If boiling, drain them on a clean cloth and cover with paper towels  :)

I allways reheat to a boiling point and put into sterilised  jars , its hard getting hold of smaller jars , i ask people to give the jars back but seldom do.

I also play safe and reboil the chutney, always thinking "better safe than sorry"  ::)
