Chicken Illness
« on: July 18, 2010, 16:20 »
I had a chicken which was fine before evening, the next morning she was sitting down looking quite poorly taking very deep breaths appearing to be going to sleep.  After isolation from the other chicken she got worst and later in the morning died.  The previous day she was just like the other running around the garden with the other.  They have been eating normally.  Can chickens over eat if food is made available?  Any advice would be appreciated. Both chickens are about 24 weeks old and no sign of eggs so far.
Thank you, Lyn.

Sorry to hear about your poor hen.  Unfortunately, hens will hide their illness for as long as possible so the others won't see they are unwell.  Often by the time they show symptoms they can be very ill and do die quite suddenly from illness or even from heart attacks.  I'm sure someone else will come along with more info for you.
