Jeyes fluid

Is this safe to use in the coop?

I have been told it's very good at killing red mite but I always thought it was poisonous?

As I understand it from what I have read the old formulation of Jayes Fluid was effective but replaced by a safer new formulation that is not as effective against redmite.  I'm sure someone with more experience will be along with more advice.  Good luck against the dreaded redmite.  :D

It's definitely not very good at killing redmite!  It says on the tin for outdoor cleaning, but we use it for cleaning the inside of the coops, but you are supposed to let it dry properly before the chooks go back in.

We just treated one house against the dreaded mites.  Used poultryshield first, then put a fumer in.  Luckily it was an empty house, so we left it for a day.  There were still some mites around, so stuck another fumer in, then ran out of poultryshield, so we bought some Smite.

Smite seems much better.  We've seen it in Poultry World!  :)  Then painted as many cracks as I could with a hemexsan slurry, and now its sitting there all nice and clean awaiting its next occupants!

(Chickens I mean, not mites! lol)

never used it myself, for redmite you need either poultry shield or ficam w both of which will work well. The disinfectant I use is one that is specifically recommended for poultry called Vanodine V18.
Staffies are softer than you think.

OK that seams to answer that question then, but I take it it good to use for normal cleaning.  I've also been told that diotamatios earth is good at killing off red mite, is that true.

yes it helps - somewhere on here is Hillfooters recipe for making it into a paste which is very effective. You can use this as a preventative but if /when you get the dreaded redmite make sure you have some of the other stuff in stock.

is it licensed for use with poultry? If not then it shouldn't be used.
