We have moved to a very overgrown garden   and I shall be cutting back shrubs and trees in the autumn. I would welcome   views on shredders as the wood that is too small for the woodburner I should like to compost/use as mulch. :?:

I bought one on ebay from a "power" supplier (in Milton Keynes I think) for £150 delivered and have abused it for 3 seasons.  Easy to use, powerful and I use the output as mulch on paths in Veg garden and under hedges etc.  Best investment I ever made.  Mine was branded as Mowerland but I think the suppleir said they came  with varuious badges depending what they had in stock.

It has a crusher rathr than cutters so it doesn't jam, never needs sharpening and is safe enough for my 5 year old to use.  Like you I hav wood burners so anything above 1" dia goes for kindling.

I had an electric Black & Decker shredder until we moved to the rock (nowt to shred) - I abused it cruelly, removed the guards so I could cram more in (not a good idea, don't try this at home) and jammed it frequently.
Amazing how quickly everything turned into compost - I swear the shreddings were heating up before I even piled them onto the heap!
I suppose the 'right' machine will depend on how big your garden is - my friend in France with a huge garden and woods (as well as woodburners) has a petrol engined shredder / chipper. semi-pro model. but it was a lot of money.
