Tayberry Bush
« on: April 27, 2016, 15:36 »
Hi all. Last year, at the bottom of our new garden (I use the term 'garden' loosely; let's call it 'wilderness') I found a bush in a tub pretty much covered in bindweed. I cut all the bindweed back and this year the bush seems to be doing quite well so far. I would ideally like to plant it in the ground, as it's a fair sized bush for the tub, but I don't know what type of soil they like. Any advice?

Are you sure it is a tayberry ?
Having grown one it seems a bit odd to have one in a pot.

You treat them much the same as a blackberry, they are a blackberry cross if I recall right. so an area that does not dry out to solid rock is preferable. Can get big depending on the variety - large refers to the length of the canes, and unless a thornless variety you will need stout gloves to handle one with.

Like a blackberry they fruit on "old" one year wood.
