Hemp - NOT the drug!
« on: April 25, 2016, 18:44 »
Please don't get me wrong, I would like to grow this as a garden plant, the seeds provide useful nutrients for veggies and vegans. It is related to the narcotic but hasn't got those properties! There are lots of knowledgeable folk out there- is it legal? I read that you need a license if farming it, but this would be a very very small scale thing.

No I think you have to have a license to grow it as I recall from a visit to the Eden project where they were growing it.
A woman's place is in her garden.

I once grew hemp using seed sold in angling shops for bait. From what I can remember it grows quite big.

That was a long time ago before pot became fashionable. No idea if you will be arrested.

Thanks, I will just have to buy the seed then, which is a shame! It does look identical to its sister plant so I suppose that's the reason.

The return you would get from one or two plants for their seed isn't really worth the investment of time and energy, when hemp seed is cheap enough to buy from wholesalers...

It was also just because I like trying unusual plants and the leaves are pretty. I saw it growing in France once in a farm museum, where it was used for rope making I believe. That was years ago though, and they may have had a dispensation to grow it.

My Mum used to grow it in the garden as she thought it was so pretty. She was very embarrassed when she realised the "pot" connotations

 8) It's a lovely plant and easy to grow.  Hemp seeds are sold in chicken feed shops and we used to have a huge rural garden....this is why I know stuff  :D

Not as bad as my mum, who wore a pair of 'Canadian maple leaf' earrings on and off, until the day she wore them in front of me.  I tentatively asked why she has them on and she was horrified when I explained what they really were
