« on: August 22, 2014, 19:33 »
I may have asked before but I have 4 yew trees in the garden they are healthy I think they are dark green on the insde and a yellowy on the outside im sure they should be dark on the outside , they sit on a strip of soil which is covered by a liner and gravel would this effect the trees , im in the northeast so rain isn't a problem the soil is a clay any ideas please , they are the ones that grow from the base and have a red berry ,

I'm sure there is a golden form, which is paler green and looks more "yellow"

Hi Chrissie

I am a fan of Yew and in the right position they will thrive and have a long life span.

They really dislike growing in acid soil and also can be damaged by black vine weevils which can turn the leaves yellow.

Could you post a photo of one of the trees? It does sound like a golden leaved form.

I have a columnar golden one in the garden at home, and it is mainly green 'inside'

Yes, the berries are very early this year. They last for ages though  :D
