Title: mantis tiller tines
Post by: TINTIN on April 18, 2013, 15:38
Hi
Are mantis tiller tines supposed to be bent? There are pictures on ebay showing new tillers with a kink in the tines but some appear to be straight. I have a fairly old one bought second hand and the tines are fairly straight.

There are kinks in them so they disturb the soill and not just slice slots in it.
If the tines on your mantis are straight,it could be that the kinks have worn off which I have seen before on machines that have had quite a bit of use.

there are tines used for aerating lawns that are straight but all the rotovating ones I have ever seen have been kinked.

The edging tool tines are completely flat, but check their website, as they're pretty proud of their tines, and the way they work!

With the cultivator set-up, here should be twenty tines on each side, in fixed double arrays, and there are some slightly bent, with about six or so with a serious bend at the tip. As Smud6ie says, they fling the soil about well with this set-up. The seriously bent ones are not opposite each other.

You can also use one set of tines on one side, and a single edging tine on the other, and cultivate the borders and edge at the same time! I spent a very happy couple of hours doing that yesterday, and it cuts out so much back-breaking work!
