Been given a Mooli, recipes please.
« on: August 11, 2011, 20:04 »

We've been a Mooli by a fellow plotter, and we're stuck on what to do with it.

We've never heard of them until today, so any and all suggestions on what to do with it will be welcomed.

Chris.

Think of it as a croos bewteen a giant radish &  turnip in taste/texture and you won't go far wrong.

Good in stir fries (chooped into matchsticks) or salads too.

Good addition to curries as it takes up flavour well and doesn't fall to pieces

On last Sunday's Something For the Weekend, Simon Rimmer made a coconut chicken curry with mooli. Looked tasty, very easy and worth a try. :)

Sorry - only just saw this post so hope you've managed to concoct something tasty with your offering!  In case you're given any more, I've used mooli with beetroot as a pickle - it makes a lovely crunchy contrast to the softer beet.  I bake the unpeeled beetroot in foil in the oven to retain colour and flavour, then peel and slice when cool.  I layer the slices in jars with sliced mooli and sliced red onion, then fill the jars with hot spiced and slightly sweetened vinegar.  It keeps really well, and the mooli is still crunchy in the batch I made last year!
