Title: What type of wire?
Post by: JamesS on May 20, 2017, 21:16
Hi,
I am looking for any advice that could be given regarding what wire you would recommend for a new walk in run.
We have been getting numerous daily visits from 2 foxes from the woods at the other side of the stream behind our garden. Due to this all my hens are now all mixed together and living in a little temporary steel run where they are safe.

I am wanting to build a walk in run for them, but am hearing conflicting things of which gauge wire to use for TOTAL protection from foxes biting through the wire. The run will be on flag stones so they cannot dig under it. My neighbour has had galvanised wire bitten through to gain entrance to his hens (it wasn't chicken wire).

Thanks for any help.

Hi We used 1" x 1/2" 16 gauge, which proved easier to fix to the posts with 1 foot of the wire going in the ground,as we have lots of foxes this is a good choice for us.

16 gauge galvanised weldmesh. 1 inch by 1/2 inch. And use it across the roof too If you can.
Best place I found was Hills of Devon. Very reasonable and quick delivery.
