Cheap cloches at Poundland!
« on: February 16, 2010, 19:07 »
I was in our local poundland yesterday and they had 1.5M long polythene cloches for a pound! They won't have the staying power of polycarb. but for a pound!  :D

They also have chair and bench covers perfect for under my cherry tree...as the birds love to decorate them, during the fruit season ...lovely

I bought some of these last year, useless ! One gust of wind and the whole lot went. They were well weighted too, but the cheap plastic just splits. I'll just wait until later to put the stuff out this year.

They are quite handy but you need to block the ends off or you get a wind tunnel. A couple of milk containers filled with water helps to weigh them down.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Sounds like another bus pass trek into Lincoln. They had small fruit trees last time I was there, all a quid!

B&Q have some stout polythene cloches at £9.99 3M long but they still need to be anchored.

I bought one of these last week, and to be honest they are pretty useless for outside use. The plastic is very thin and the wire is really bendy! (but what am i moaning about, they are a quid!) However, i have utilised it within the greenhouse to give me a chance of double early lettuce! Useful in this context i think.

I got hold a dozen of these last year, they are what they are - a quids worth of cloche but they served a purpose and will go out agin this year over my first earlies

I had decided to make myself some proper cloches over the winter, but of course I haven't done it.

I hoe, I hoe, it's off to weed I go.
