I planted some calabrese plants in April and already heads have formed. The plants are about 2 feet tall and as this is my first time of growing I'm not sure if they are ready to harvest. Some heads have 'separated' and are now showing the first signs of flowering. Is it safe to harvest and use the heads, although some are quite small.  :?

If the heads are separating and starting to flower, eat the the others before they do the same. Once they flower the are no use to eat. Don' eat them if they look as if they are still growing, though. If they are a bit small this time, maybe they need more water or more feeding. Next time they may be better. Don't lose heart - enjoy what's there!

brocolli has lovely flowers didn't realise i was eating flower heads before. you can also eat the leaves they taste just like spring greens so no waste.

I have eaten two lots of my calabrese which I planted in March, which I also thought was strange, but hey ho.
The first plant I cut has already started growing a side head, so hopefully this should be continueous(cant spell ) not sure though.
