Boiled beetroot skins?
« on: October 02, 2018, 15:53 »

The compost heap or no?  (What my old Mam used to call the 'midden').

Cheers,  Tony.

'We are told' not to put cooked kitchen waste on compost heaps, but if it's purely vegetable material rather than anything animal-derived I personally don't see a problem with it.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I would put them on the compost heap. The usual reason for not putting cooked leftovers on the heap is because it attracts mice and rats. I doubt that a few Beetroot skins are going to be any worse in that regard than lots of other things that go on the heap.
Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.

Ditto.  I work on the principle that if it is just vegetable or fruit, its fine for the heap.  If it has any meat or dairy, nope.  Then it goes in the 'green/composting' bin for the council wrapped in paper - they take food waste in that.  Not that it is often a problem!

It looks as the 'compost it' faction have it!

Thanks for those knowledgeable replies.

Cheers,  Tony.
