I had a Saxifrage in a pot outside for about 3 years but it started to look a bit unhealthy this spring. I re-potted what I could salvage as most of the foliage had gone brown. It was doing ok but just of late the foliage (what small amount is left) is drying and going brown. The soil is moist so it isn't lack of water 

Any ideas why please ?

Saxifrage needs to be in very well draining soil so it's probably too wet.

It's not too wet. It was the same when it was very dry.

Maybe an animal is having a wee on it.  My mum has lost a couple either to cats or foxes having a wee.  There is not much can be done to salvage them at that stage.

I suspect a root problem. Have you checked the roots?  Knock it out the pot and take a look. Could be a soil pest like vine weevil or fly gnat larvae which can be a big pest in wet/damp container soil.

Might be worth checking the roots now then just incase if its almost dead you have no worry about harming it further
