Title: Dying tree?
Post by: RJR_38 on August 21, 2018, 09:17
We moved into our house early last summer and there was a huge tree in the front - about 10ft tall (no idea what it is but has lovely pink blossom). It was incredibly overgrown and lopsided so last autum we paid a tree surgeon to come and sort it out. He really cut it back hard as he said it needed it. It is definitely a much better shape now and in proportion but...

There have only been a few leaves sprouting on it this year (which I expected as he took off all the small branches) but only on one side. Where the tree splits into two main branches any growth (and it is minimal) has only been on one side.

With the the very harsh winter and now dry summer we have had I wonder if it has been too much for this poor beauty and we have inadvertently killed part of it? How would we tell and is there anything I can do?

I think you'll have to wait and see how it grows next year, as you say this year has been a challenge for everything. Fingers crossed it will show more growth in the spring.
