Basil is the devils spawn basically  :D

I have the same problem as you, and its the herb I use most - I hate the dried stuff

I was told recently to underwater it i.e. wait till it goes limp and then give it a good drink. Always water the soil not the leaves, as it hates them being wet and feed once a week or so. Pinch out the top after 6 inches or so to encourage it to bush out (if it grows that big!!)

Ive also put mine in the gh to see if it improves, rather than on my (rather cold) kitchen window sill.  It seems to be working so far, its recovering slowly - there were new leaves on it yesterday

As peapod said, I also read that you should only underwater i.e. water in it saucer or whatever.

I have some I put outside in garden and some on kitchen windowsill.  Both doing well.  Ones outside planted same time much, much slower.  Buts that ok planted too much anyway.

Have you tried "Lemon basil"....wow really lemon smell and taste.  I want to try some "cinnamon basil", haven't got the seeds yet.  Someone also told us "thai basil" tastes like that gum dentine, which is a cinnamon liquorish taste.

well I was told never to water it at night... mine has always been terrible and we love it... the problem with mine was over crowding. I grew too many in a pot, so now grow 2-3 in a 3 inch pot and they are going good guns.

I think I've done the same thing and over watered my Basil.  The plants were healthy when they arrived but the leaves after only a week have wilted and even dried a little - I wondered if the basil was getting too cold as well.

Web sites on Basil don't seem to mention best conditions, I know warm and out of drafts, also now minimum water, what else please?

I guess it is a mediterranean plant so prefers less water, more warmth, etc
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
