Hello fellow enthusiasts,

I purchased a Merry Tiller Major from a farm sale, clean it up and eventually got it working... for a while.  Although old in years I am relatively new( a couple of years) to the world of allotments but I have the bug(sorry about the pun)

Anyway back to my Merry Tiller,  unfortunately trying to start it last night I snapped the starter cord.

Anyone with any ideas on
(a) Is it possible to just replace the starter cord and if yes where one might purchase
(b) do I need to replace the whole pull assembly.

Appreciate your guidance
Nedh

You have it all so you might as well change it all seeing its there, one less thing to worry about

You would have to remove the pulley to fit a new spring but don't always have to to fit a new cord. If you can get away without removing the pulley, don't, as you have to bend the tangs back (unless you have an early 5hp engine) and they often break off. Although B & S add a spare set, if these break your starter cowl is toast.

Many thanks for your help and apologies for  not responding earlier, I have been on holiday with no internet access hence the delay but I will certainly follow your guidance.
