Best tomato this year

What toms have done you well this year?
For me its been Orange Paruche by a country mile. Unfortunately its an F1, but blimey its been very prolific - very  very sweet  and generally lovely.IDefintiely growing it next year as it seems ok to move outdoors.  I've been disappointed by Tigeralla and red Pear - both seem a bit tasteless and thick skinned.

Cheers,
Balders

Only tried 2 this year, both outdoors on the plot. At the moment I am picking Tom Million toms everyday and they are very very good. About half the size of a golf ball, but very sweet and really nice.
The other variety is San Marzarno. They are not quite ready yet, there are getting bigger everyday, but not quite there yet.

Rio Grande plum and Black cherry, doing well as always.

Black Sea Man (beefsteak) gave a tremendous yield even though the plants got blight, so cropping ended early.

Like Baldy, another F1 unfortunately. Floridity cherry plums. The most unbelievable crop off two plants, and still going strong.  Sweet as a nut, prolific beyond belief, I can't keep up with them and I'm now having to make soups with these salad type toms. If blight doesn't strike, I would think these plants will have produced for a good 4 months ! Never known a tomato like it, ever. Hope they're not secretly nuclear.

Now Baldy - I found Tigerella to be surprisingly amazing!
Mine are thin skinned and delicious  :)

My best are 'Sweet Million' - I have so much fruit and it's so juicey :D

So far sungold and sweet aperitif for flavour. Disappointed with chadwick cherry and tigerella.

My beefstakes (black krim and marmande) have lots of fruit but none has ripened yet.

Tigerella, Super Marmande and Sun Gold.  I had San Marzano recommended to me by a friend but I don't think much of it, very few fruit on it and have tasted nicer.

Not the best flavoured tomato of all time, but I grow Red Alert to make into sauces because they are always so prolific. Attached pic shows one of the two plants in a bag of compost (used flat like a growbag) in my cold frame.

Based on the weight of the ripe, or nearly ripe, fruits I've already taken off I estimate each plant will produce at least 10lbs of fruit, blight permitting, although they do ripen quite well off the plant if they're not too green when picked.

Red Alert is not an F1 variety - these were grown from saved seeds.  ;)

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Definitely Sungold - yet - again, both inside the greenhouse, and outside!

The 'Alicante', which is a bog-standard, are bursting with size and flavour down on 'The Patch. and the greenhouse ones are romping away still, but don't taste as strong!

Next year, we'll try 'Marmande', down on 'The Patch', as they are just heaving with fruit at the moment, and need much more ground than the big 10" pots we're growing them in this year.

I'm convinced now that 'the answer lies in the soil', with toms and we'll prepare a special bed with loads of muck and gravitas for them next year!

Gravitas?
I've heard of people talking to their plants... But how do you get gravitas into the soil?

Silly boy - gravitas is always in the soil (it's wot stops it streaking round the solar system like a big comet with carrots in.)

Tigerella and Golden Sunrise are tops for 'tomato' flavour but I do like Black Russian although the sharpness is not to everyone's liking. The trouble with tomatoes is there are so many varieties most of us don't live long enough to try them all.

My yields this year have been amazing. Not sure if it's the sunshine or my special compost  ;)

My best so far this year are my own saved "oleron yellow". Only trouble is that I've got three different varieties from the saved seeds from one plant. Two yellow and one red. I assume they crossed with different varieties. The two yellows taste really sweet but the red has a superb salty tang to it.

Black cherry is the outright winner for flavour for me.

Lots of mine still aren't ripe though.
