What kind of mite is this?
« on: August 16, 2010, 19:29 »
I have found this mite in my coop but I don't know what kind it is. They can be got rid of with poultry shield but I want to make sure they are nothing too sinister. If anyone knows  what kind of mite it is please let me know!

Its a harvestman, not a mite of any description, its a member of the spider family. No threat to your chooks, it's breeding season, so they're everywhere at the mo. Dont panic, they'll be gone in a few weeks  :)

If that was a redmite and at that size, I might consider running from it too!

Mind you, if red mite were that size, they'd be a darn sight easier to find!   :D
