Potatoes
« on: March 19, 2018, 08:10 »
Hi all,
Planted my early spuds in the Polytunnel yesterday and am going to attack the seconds and mains outside today as it is going to be dry for a bit, frosts at night for the rest of this week but temperatures warming up here in mid France. Can’t get to my supplier of Horse manure so will have to use store bought compost so my question is do I put the compost in the trench and sit the seeds on it or seeds on the soil and cover them with compost.
I am gambling a bit with the weather but Im going away for a bit so want to get them in sooner rather than later.
Regards,
Roccinante

I'd say put the compost in first then cover the seeds with soil as it will help protect them from frost and the soil can then be used to earth up later.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
