The New Plot
« on: January 15, 2018, 16:21 »
Got my key and went to my first plot today. Mysterious trees and bushes, weeds galore, and a pretty disintegrated carpet on one of the beds.  Maybe I should had seen it before accepting it...
I'm very excited to start but I have no idea where!

Mystery 1 looks like a chard plant to me and no.4 could be a cherry tree.

No.2 is a left over berry of some description - autumn raspberry or blackberry maybe.  No.3 is just a weed gone to seed I think.

I want back up today. And took some more pictures.

https://imgur.com/a/QzVKW (Here in album)

Height of the is trees probably around 10ft.

I moved the carpet on one bed to another over grown one. I was thinking of digging in the dead matter and removing any roots, is this the correct step to take?
The larger woody areas I really have no idea about. I'll visit the association hut over the weekend to see if anyone wants to advise me. My University also has a 'Green Growers' society so I'm going to try and rope them in.

If you like, you can start a diary in the Gardeners' Diary thread, or keep you photos in the Gallery

Clearing away the grass roots is a good idea, and any dead material can be dug in, as you suggested. You have a very good looking cherry tree there (as far as I can see) so maybe think about how you can stop birds eating them all before you do! I make "sleeves" of fine netting and pull them loosely over  a branch and tie it round onto the branch. Get lots that way!

I can also see what may be an apple tree waving long shoots up into the air

You would do well to get rid of that carpet before it starts to disintegrate. Anyone who has dealt with rotting carpet will tell you it's one of the more deadly weeds to dig out. May you not find any of it buried in the debris as you clear.

after looking at your other photos that is no ash tree. probably fruit? it looks like its been pruned in the past.
you certainly have a bit of clearing to do but looks a nice open plot.
tackle a bit at a time. you will get there. remember rome wasn't built in a day.
